Introduction
Dealing with crime and punishment are my passions. Before they retrenched me, I spent more years in the prison system than I care to remember. I would like to tell you more about my retrenchment but Rosa (she’s my wife) says I should put it behind me and get on with my life.
And that’s what I did. I got on with my life, a quiet suburban life, altogether without excitement. I love it – at least that’s what I tell myself.
Then last week this Abigail made contact with me. She really irritates me. After all, she is one of the group that took over all the jobs, while I am one of the group that lost them. And what she wants from me is absurd. She wants me to get her into C-Max, the country’s highest security prison. First of all, I have difficulty getting access to the inmates myself now. I need a damned good reason before they even consider it. On top of that, this Abigail won’t tell me why she wants to get in.
