Freek searches for clues
The search of the house and property turned up nothing for the first six hours and this bastard sat in the lounge and smiled. He was gloating at the team’s lack of success. Freek allowed me in to help, but it hardly seemed necessary. His men covered the entire place with the greatest possible care. It didn’t seem possible that they could have missed anything.
Towards evening he and I stood outside to talk about it. “He has her blood,” Freek said. “He’s kept some, the lunatic. I know it. I can feel it. It must be in a sealed container to prevent it from coagulating. But where is it?”
“It may not be here,” I said.
“No, it’s here all right. I can feel it.”
“If it is here, perhaps it’s in plain sight. Perhaps we’re looking at it without seeing it. Perhaps it’s inside an ornament or vase or something like that.”
“I’m desperate enough to consider anything,” he said. “Let’s try again. We will look for blood in plain sight.”
